Thanksgiving is the perfect time to engage your students with fun, festive, and educational activities. One of my favorite books to read aloud during this season is Turkey Trouble by Wendi Silvano. This delightful story follows a clever turkey as he dons various disguises to avoid ending up on Farmer Jakeâs dinner table. It’s a humorous and creative tale that sparks imagination and discussion among young learners.

To extend the learning and make the story even more interactive, I’ve developed a set of activities and worksheets that align with the themes of the book. These resources are designed to enhance comprehension, encourage creative thinking, and practice writing skills.

Creative Classroom Activities Inspired by Turkey Trouble
1. Turkey Disguise Design Challenge
After reading the story, challenge your students to come up with their own creative disguises for the turkey. Provide materials like construction paper, markers, and fabric scraps for them to create their designs. This activity promotes creativity and problem-solving skills.

2. Procedural Writing: How to Catch a Turkey
Have students write a step-by-step guide on how to catch a turkey using their designed disguises. This exercise reinforces sequencing, instructional writing, and the use of transition words. It’s a great way to integrate writing with STEM concepts.

3. Turkey Trouble Role Play
Organize a role-playing session where students act out different parts of the story. Assign roles such as the turkey, Farmer Jake, and various animals. This activity enhances comprehension, speaking, and listening skills.
