Book Week is undoubtedly one of my favourite times of the year. It’s a time to celebrate the magic of literature and ignite a love for reading in our students… But I understand the stress that can come with finding the perfect costume. The good news? It doesn’t have to break the bank or consume all your time! With a bit of creativity and resourcefulness, you can likely create a plethora of costumes using items you already have in your wardrobe.
- The Colourful Critter: Transform into a vibrant caterpillar character reminiscent of the classic children’s story. Raid your wardrobe for a green outfit – a shirt and leggings or trackies will do just fine. Then, grab some colourful construction paper and cut some circles to attach to your outfit. Finish off with homemade antennae using pipe cleaners and a headband.
- The Wizardly Wonder: Step into the enchanting world of wizards and magic by becoming a whimsical sorcerer. A long robe in any dark colour will suffice, paired with round glasses for that scholarly touch. Craft a makeshift wand from a stick or chopstick and add a drawn-on lightning bolt scar or temporary tattoo for authenticity.
- The Seek-and-Find Adventurer: Embrace the challenge of hide-and-seek by dressing as a character known for their elusive nature. Sport a shirt with bold stripes, comfortable pants and those trusty round glasses. Challenge your students to find you throughout the day, adding an element of fun to the festivities!
- The Fancy Dresser: Embrace elegance and sophistication by becoming a character known for their love of all things fancy. Raid your wardrobe for a frilly dress or shirt, and don’t forget to accessorise with beads and ribbons. Top it off with a tiara or fancy hat, inviting your students to join in the fun for a classroom tea party!
